There are so many great destinations waiting to be explored. Lolo and I discovered this firsthand during our recent carefree summer getaway through France. However, once we returned home, I realized that perhaps we were a bit too carefree in our approach. We packed far too much luggage, struggled with a wobbly carry-on with a bad wheel through the airport, arrived in France without any reservations, and rented a box truck with broken air-conditioning during a blistering heatwave.
But... this trip wasn’t about the destination—it was all about the journey! We may have started our carefree summer getaway as tourists, but we ended it as true travelers."
We saw more than just the famous landmarks, despite sore feet and sunburns. We veered off the tourist track, riding the backroads that wind past vineyards, cherry orchards, and fields of lavender and sunflowers. We waited in line for croissants at roadside boulangeries, wandered narrow, bumpy cobblestone paths in medieval hilltop villages, and dined with locals at charming outdoor cafés. We shopped antique fairs and markets, sampling a slice of the 'real' France.
