Title

An 18th century Louis XV-Louis XVI Transition period solid cherry enfilade buffet handcrafted by skilled artisans from Toulouse during the French Transition period (1750-1775), having three panel doors that open to reveal plenty of storage. The shaped, carved apron of this enfilade is typical Louis XV style, in contrast with the carved panel doors and straight legs, which are typical of Louis XVI pieces. This simple, yet elegant buffet with it's narrow depth is a very versatile piece and is perfect for a foyer, hallway, dining room, or as a TV cabinet.

Most Transition period pieces were created outside Paris by Provincial cabinet makers and combined design elements used during Louis XV's reign (1723-1774) with Louis XVI (1774-1792) motifs in the same piece. When Louis XVI assumed the throne in 1774 after his father's death, Rococo tendencies and Baroque excess were no longer popular. A movement was underway that favored the clean, straight lines of the neoclassical style.
