Title

A substantial 19th century French breadboard or cutting board, beautifully worn from over a century of use in a bustling provincial kitchen. A beautiful example of 19th century French utilitarian design, this large board is hand carved from a hefty single slab of hardwood. Its generous scale and weight hint at its original use in a farmhouse or village boulangerie, where dough for daily bread was mixed, kneaded, and shaped by hand. Measuring nearly 20 inches wide, it's significantly heavier and thicker than most — a sign that it was crafted to handle serious daily work.

The deeply scored board reveals the imprint of daily life, its natural wear shaped not by machines, but by human hands. The thick, timeworn surface features knife scarred character from cutting crusty country loaves and hearty boules daily and a gently hollowed center well, a testament to generations of repetitive kneading and shaping. Slightly raised edges and worn corners add to its rustic appeal, while the smooth underside hints at the artisan’s hand. The squared body ends in a short, stout handle. Whether displayed on a wall, used for serving charcuterie, or as a statement piece in a country kitchen, this storied board is rich in history, function, and French charm —  a true piece of French culinary heritage. *Shown with additional antique breadboards, each sold separately. This listing is for the featured board only.
