Title

Bold, refined, and unmistakably Parisian, this late 19th century French Empire style guéridon, circa 1890s, embodies the refinement that defined Parisian furniture-making during the Second Empire and early Third Republic. Handcrafted of richly grained mahogany, the table features a round dark gray Sainte Anne marble top with a beautiful double-grooved, stepped edge — a signature detail favored by the elite ébénistes who worked in and around Île-de-France.

Below the marble rests a simple, elegant apron supported by three turned columnar legs dressed with finely tooled bronze mounts at both the capitals and bases. The legs descend to a shaped tricorn concave plinth, a refined architectural base form often associated with Parisian ateliers where symmetry and balance were paramount. A warm, hand-rubbed patina reveals decades of gentle use that highlights the table’s age and craftsmanship. Finished with turned bun feet, the piece strikes the perfect balance between power and restraint, an unmistakable hallmark of Empire furniture from the capital region that brings a strong architectural elegance to any room.

Parisian Empire pieces are celebrated for their superior craftsmanship, noble materials, and restrained neoclassical ornamentation. Stately yet usable, decorative yet wonderfully versatile, this striking gueridon offers timeless French elegance with an architectural presence. Perfect as a center table, wine table, or side table beside a fauteuil or between a pair of chairs.
