Title

A beautiful and rare 19th Century French Louis Philippe period painted and parcel gilt rectangular mirror having its original mercury glass, circa 1840s. The tall rectangular shape of the frame has straight corners at the base with a wavy crest. The inner border features "les perles" (beading that resembles a strand of pearls) next to the antique mirror glass. Artisans used this beading technique as a decorative element on only the grandest pieces with pearls symbolizing power and luxury since only the most wealthy aristocrats could afford them. Red oxidation showing through the beautiful water gilded patina is original to the piece. The unique appearance of antique mirror glass always adds charm and character that is impossible to achieve with new mirror glass.
