A handsome 19th century French Louis Philippe period enfilade buffet handcrafted from walnut by talented artisans in the South of France, circa 1840s. The enfilade features a rectangular plank top with softly rounded molded edges sitting above three drawers, each fitted with a simple turned wooden pull. Three paneled doors below are framed with simple molding, allowing the striking grain and naturally varied patina of the walnut to provide the decoration. Each door is adorned with a brass escutcheon and key, adding just a touch of ornament against the warmth of the wood. Behind the doors, the spacious interior is divided into three compartments with shelves, providing an abundance of practical storage. The buffet rests on four distinctive pistolet feet, a characteristic detail often found on Louis Philippe period furniture. Their gently shaped profile gives the substantial case a slightly lighter appearance while remaining wonderfully sturdy.
The walnut has developed a particularly beautiful patina. The door panels show especially expressive figuring, with the grain creating almost symmetrical patterns across their surfaces. Small marks and subtle variations accumulated over nearly two centuries give the wood character without diminishing the clean simplicity of the piece.
