Title

A refined 20th century Parisian commode attributed to the legendary Parisian design firm Maison Jansen, a name synonymous with timeless elegance and neoclassical flair. Handcrafted in France, circa 1940s, this elegantly proportioned commode reflects the atelier’s signature balance of neoclassical discipline and polished sophistication. Maison Jansen was renowned for reinterpreting classical French forms with crisp lines, luxurious materials, and impeccable restraint — qualities beautifully embodied in this piece. Having a sculpted “cookie cutter” Carrara marble top, it's shaped marble, with softly molded edges and delicate gray veining, offers a luminous contrast to the warmth of the richly toned mahogany below.

Featuring three drawers, this handsome commode exemplifies the enduring appeal of Parisian design: clean architectural structure accented by refined ornamentation. Each drawer is framed with fine brass baguette inlay, lending crisp definition against the glowing wood grain. Fluted corner stiles introduce subtle vertical rhythm, while oval beaded brass escutcheons and brass drop bail handles add tailored elegance without excess. Raised on short toupie feet capped with brass collars ending in brass sabots, the silhouette feels balanced and composed — substantial yet light. The mahogany has developed a beautiful, even patina over time. The brass details show softly aged tones contributing to the layered warmth collectors seek in Parisian commodes.

Versatile and quietly commanding, this piece is equally suited to a bedroom, flanking a fireplace, anchoring a hallway, or adding architectural polish to a living space. Both practical and decorative, it offers generous storage while bringing the timeless refinement of a Paris atelier into the home.
