Title

An early 19th century French Country Louis XV painted buffet deux corps from the south of France, dating to the early 1800s. Graceful in form and generous in scale, this charming provincial cabinet embodies the relaxed elegance and practicality of southern French design.

The upper cabinet is crowned with a beautifully shaped chapeau de gendarme cornice, its gently arched silhouette lending movement and softness to the piece. Below, the original glazed doors, divided by gently shaped muntins, open to reveal three interior shelves, ideal for displaying glassware, china, serving pieces, or collected treasures. The glass panes allow light to filter through while beautifully showcasing their contents, making the upper cabinet both functional and decorative. While traditionally used for storing china and glassware, the glazed upper section also lends itself beautifully to housing books or curated collections, offering versatility beyond the dining room. Resting beneath is the lower buffet section, fitted with two drawers adorned with original iron pulls, perfect for storing silverware, linens, or smaller serving pieces. The pair of carved raised panel doors below open to reveal a single interior shelf, offering ample concealed storage for trays, platters, and everyday essentials.

The entire piece retains its softly weathered pale blue painted finish, beautifully timeworn to reveal layers of warm wood beneath. The patina is rich and authentic, with natural distressing that highlights the carved moldings and panel details. Subtle carved embellishments frame the doors and drawers, while the lower apron features a gracefully shaped skirt with gentle curves that echo the Louis XV aesthetic. Raised on short cabriole legs, the buffet stands with quiet elegance, its curved stance adding a refined lightness to its substantial form.

Both decorative and highly functional, this French Country buffet deux corps offers versatile storage while bringing warmth, character, and a touch of Provençal charm to a dining room, kitchen, or living space.
