Title

A beautiful mid-19th century French Louis Philippe period table de drapier or draper table, circa 1840s, handcrafted of solid walnut in Toulouse, located between the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean, making it a center for trade between the Pyrenees, the Mediterranean and the Atlantic. Found in an old draper's atelier, this antique French draper table features a rectangular plank top with two apron drawers for storing shears, scissors, snips, and other tools of the trade. The large surface area would have been used by seamstresses to measure and cut fabrics and textiles. Raised on four turned legs with a single plank bottom shelf that provided space for storing extra fabrics. Drapery tables like this were a common feature in the cloth merchant’s shop. This is a lovely example of a French draper's table, having great form and a rich, warm patina. Perfect for use as a kitchen island, work table, or console table, it will also work well in a foyer, restaurant, or as a store display.
