A rare 19th century French Restauration period kitchen island handcrafted by talented artisans in the South of France in the heart of Languedoc, just outside the medieval city of Narbonne, circa 1810. A rectangular plank top sits above three drawers adorned with circular brass pulls over three hand carved scrolling pilasters that provide a framework for the three panel doors with shield shaped escutcheons that open to reveal a spacious interior with a single shelf that allows plenty of room to store platters, dishes, and other kitchen necessities. Raised on short sabot feet. The back side features three carved recessed panels. The wonderful proportions and rich character of the wood make this versatile piece, finished on both sides so that it can float in the room, both practical and perfect for entertaining.
